Stand Up in the Basement is Southampton’s favourite indie comedy night – run by two pals (one of them being your host & MC, comedian Colin Owens) who kicked things off in the basement of the much-loved Mango Thai in Ocean Village back in 2017. That cosy underground room saw some absolute storming nights and gave us our name – cheers Mango, you little/big legend​.

 

We spent five brilliant years in the Mango Ocean Village basement, before moving upstairs to Heartbreakers Bar & Venue in the heart of Southampton in 2023 on Tuesdays and Thursdays... we've expanded to monthly Friday nights at Papillon the beautiful old Vestry opposite Southampton Mayflower Theatre in 2025.

Whether you're after live comedy in Southampton, a unique night out, or just a proper laugh with your mates, you’re in good hands. Our shows feature familiar faces off the telly – Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week, Taskmaster, BGT – plus up'n'coming talent and big names testing new material.​​
